Commonwealth and State Government Funding Support
The Art Centre currently receives substantial Commonwealth grant funding from the Australian Government through the Department of Communications and the Arts under the Indigenous Visual Arts Industry Support (IVAIS) program. The purpose of the grant is to support a professional, strong, and ethical Indigenous visual arts industry, with strong participation by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The grant is provided to contribute to the grantee’s operational costs and to enable the grantee to employ Indigenous art workers.
The Art Centre also receives current solid funding from the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland, Department of the Premier and the Cabinet. Funding support is through three (3) program streams; Backing Indigenous Arts Initiative (BIA), Visual Arts and Craft Strategy (VACS) and Indigenous Regional Arts Development Fund (IRADF). Arts Queensland also provides funding for Lockhart River Arts Indigenous Corporation annually to prepare and participate at the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair (CIAF). Arts Queensland recently introduced funding for capacity building and will support the Art Centre in this new program.
