Overcoming Adversity Paintings from Lockhart River

Art Mob Aboriginal Fine Art Gallery in Hobart Tasmania showcased a Lockhart River group exhibition titled "Overcoming adversity" from 16 to 30 August 2019. The exhibition narrative from the paintings spoke of the resilience of the Lockhart River artists as a group and as individuals navigating through personal and community wide hardship during the last 12 months from sorry business, tropical Cyclone Trevor in March 2019 causing substantial damage to 3 Art Centre buildings and community wide destruction. The exhibition highlighted the hardships experienced in a regional Australian Indigenous community. Despite the depth of the adversities the inner-drive, passion, enthusiasm, courage and will to forge ahead from adversity to normality, each artist pressed on to keep culture, tradition and art the source of strength to deliver another epic batch of artworks for a fitting exhibition theme. Special gratitude to our artists both youth, young and elderly for keeping the ART GANG spirit alive through this exhibition. A special thanks to Euan and Jake for hosting this exhibition.
