Cairns Indigenous Art Fair from 13-16 July 2017 was a success for Lockhart River Arts Centre. The market response at the market stall was tight predominantly with spenders on a tight budget and lack of extra wall space at home to fit the additional new piece of artwork. There were customers who knew which specific artists they had in mind for a purchase and there were customers who needed information from the Art Centre on individual artist profile and body of works. We were also pleased to serve repeat returning customers.
Artists present at the Lockhart River Arts Centre Market stall were Irene Namok, Thelma Hobson, Rosella Namok and Evelyn Sandy. Also present was the Art Centre Accountant Rachel Burgess and Art Centre's Business Manager.
During the exhibition, artist Thelma Hobson had an artist talk session with the general public at the Art Centre's curated exhibition on Saturday 15 July 2017.
The Art Centre also had special VIP visits from the Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk at our curated exhibition and His Excellency, the Governor of Queensland Paul de Jersey on day 3 of the art fair.
Our participation was a success through the solid support of Skytrans Airlines which provided free return tickets for three Lockhart River artists and free freight of artworks from Lockhart River to Cairns pre-art fair. Arts Queensland also funded Lockhart River Arts Centre's participation at the Art Fair in 2017 and Arts Queensland has provided the funding support in previous years.
With Cairns Indigenous Art Fair now completed, we are preparing to participate at the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair at the Darwin Convention Centre from 11-13 August 2017.
